FAQ series: This series of publications explores some of the most often-asked questions regarding Timegated® spectrometers and measurements without having you read page after page of text.
People with varying levels of Raman spectroscopy knowledge become interested in Timegated® Raman and its applications. Most commonly asked questions include knowing if a specific application is suitable for the measurement technique. Timegate has developed a sample measurement service to answer this question.
When considering a purchase, we offer the opportunity to send samples for measurements. This gives a clearer understanding of the results we can deliver. The service also caters to those who may not be actively seeking a new instrument but still want accurate data on material characteristics.
The first step to get your samples measured is to fill out a questionnaire at the bottom of the Sample measurements page and the detailed sample description form following the questionnaire. The system calculates the estimated price based on the number of samples and the sample type which affect the required effort for the measurements.
After filling out the questionnaire, a Timegate representative will contact you within a couple of working days to discuss the sample feasibility and the details on how to proceed. If the samples or the potential application includes sensitive information, we are open to discussions regarding NDAs.
The amount of required sample depends on the intended application. Here are some general guidelines:
In the case of liquids, we usually ask to send the samples in clear glass containers so that the measurements can be carried out without opening the containers. With microscopic samples, the required amount of sample is significantly lower. We have several probe options and the application team will choose the best one for your samples.
After conducting the measurements, we will provide you with the results including the application feasibility, spectra, and description of how the measurements were carried out. If the results satisfy both parties, and the application area is feasible, we can discuss further options to assist your business and processes. If you have any questions during the process, our specialists are more than happy to guide you.
